Do I need to schedule an evaluation first?
In most cases, yes. An evaluation is vital in the process of developing a tailored, appropriate speech-language therapy program. In some cases, if your child has had a complete speech-language evaluation from a licensed speech-language pathologist, a complete evaluation may not be necessary. This is a case by case basis and is not a guarantee that you will not need to obtain an evaluation.
Do you accept another speech therapist’s evaluation?
If the evaluation was a speech-language evaluation from a licensed speech-language pathologist in the last six months, then most likely, yes. Additional testing may be required to validate present levels. This is a case by case basis and is not a guarantee that you will not need to obtain an additional evaluation. “Developmental Evaluations” done by an occupational therapist, physical therapist, psychologist, neurologist, or teachers are not speech-language evaluations. While these tests are highly informative and can be useful in determining present levels, they cannot take the place of a complete speech-language evaluation.
